Xenia Hotel Megatrends

All the latest trends in technology, interior design, architecture, building, and sustainability will be presented exclusively at the ambitious and innovative Hotel Megatrends project in Xenia 2018.

HOTEL MEGATRENDS is an innovative project by Xenia 2018 designed by Makridis Associates. It is a fully developed facility of more than 380 square meters, which will be set up in Hall 1 (24-26 November 2018, Metropolitan Expo, Athens), where the latest trends in technology, interior design, architecture, building, design and sustainability will be presented. These challenges are or should be related with every hotelier, tourist accommodation owner, architect, decorator, designer, civil engineer or technical company. A specialised team of architects, designers, technology and lighting consultants, wellness consultants, manufacturers and sponsor companies will work together to bring this MEGA production to life.

HOTEL MEGATRENDS will be developed on four main axes and aims to create a point of innovation, education and inspiration for visitors of the exhibition.

These four axes are the following:

• TECH: New practices and innovations in technology, related to management and operation of hotel businesses. Technology turns into an informal protagonist. Informal because it does not compete with its purposes of existence, which is the service of human needs, and the protagonist because it seamlessly and simply supports the activities within the hotel of the future, turning so the hospitality into a unique experience.

• DESIGN: The dominant tendencies in the interior and exterior decoration as well as implemented design proposals by Greek industrial designers.

• GREEN: Use and presentation of “green” materials, products and practices, as well as natural resource management systems (water / sun / air), technological solutions that lead to conservation of resources.

• LOCAL: Connecting to the local community (creating attractive spaces for local people, connecting to the local community through social media and special apps, using products produced by local companies).

HOTEL MEGATRENDS, the hospitality think tank

The design of the actual HOTEL MEGATRENDS installation is based on the interaction of the above four axes (Tech, Design, Green and Local), making an effort to create a new experience which will be experimental, particularly social, friendly and creative. The goal of the project is to reflect and generate ideas that can make us reconsider the standards of conventional hosting spaces and how the Design most radically affects the mode and manner in which a hotel responds to the needs of visitors and the local community. The overall design should enable the hosting space to experiment and grow along with the local community while responding to the wishes and expectations of the modern traveller. Nowadays, the important elements sought by the visitor are friends, well-being, quality food, high aesthetics but also modern technology. The new modern traveller appreciates intimacy, social responsibility, flexibility, the value and specific features of the place they visit.

In the constantly changing and intense environment we live in, the life experiences that change the psychosomatic condition of a person are the challenges for the viability of the tourist product. Greece, with its unique geographical terrain and its endless sources of raw materials, can play the role of a “Transformative Retreat” in line with the trend that is evolving on a global level, having travellers, regardless of their financial standing, want to have experiences through which they can see a change in attitude and of course in their mental and physical health. This way, through culture, contact with nature (mountain & sea), gastronomy (local ingredients) and the proper use of technology, each visitor has the ability to alter themselves in a psychosomatic way.

Project HOTEL MEGATRENDS 2018 will present the new trends and the road that hotels should follow, taking these factors into account. Through its architectural design and the synergies it develops, it will be presented in specially designed venues –”City Hotel Room”, “City Hotel Lounge”, “Co-Working Area”, “Escape Resort Spa”, “Escape Resort Room”– the demands of the modern traveller have an impact on modern hospitality spaces. The live experience will include guided tours and will be enhanced by specialised talks by leading figures of the tourist industry in a specially designed venue, qualitatively highlighting views that can significantly affect the future and redesign of the Greek tourist product.
