Polis Hammam

The project is located in an existing building in Athens city center and extends on 3 levels with an enclosed back yard full of trees.

The element of surprise is evident from the entrance to the building. Entering from a narrow alley through a bronze plated fennel-like shelter, one reaches the elevated ground level which accommodates the lobby, reception and relaxation-exhibition area. Two lifts and a staircase connect this floor with the lower levels of the hammam, as well as the upper floors of the building with commercial and hospitality use.

The main hammam facilities extend on the first basement, following a specific circulatory path, as an abstraction of traditional hammam layouts. Thus the rooms are placed in a sequential order from dry-cold areas to semi wet-warm and wet-hot areas. From the changing rooms and wet rooms, curvy wooden corridors lead to the main hammam area, with the central octagonal marble stone base and the smaller more private niches. The VIP hammam room has a smaller square marble base with direct connection to both main room and VIP changing room. A relaxation area allocated next to the garden, as a final step for the holistic hammam experience.

The second basement accommodates the spa facilities, with massage rooms, sauna, changing rooms and auxiliary spaces. This floor level also includes an office, rooms for the personnel, a kitchen and storage and MEP rooms.
