Nations Pavillion

Nations Pavillion

The project was assigned to MAKRIDIS ASSOCIATES Architects as part of the infrastructural works for the European Union Summit and involved the operational, structural, morphological and energy upgrade of the existing “Pavilion of Nations” of Thessaloniki’s International Trade Fair. The pavilion’s facades, the main entrance and the interior of the pavilion were redesigned, as well as the connection of Pavilion 6 with the “Convention Center Vellidis. Fifteen blocks of office spaces were designed on the ground floor, including entrance lobbies, secretariat and meeting rooms. Natural illumination was ensured for all spaces.

The functional alterations at underground level included adding stairways, elevators, support spaces and the creation of a multi-purpose hall. The building required large scale alterations, reinforcements and local repairs to maintain and enhance the existing structure. At the same time new structures were made either from of reinforced concrete or metal. The facades facing the city were covered with blue aluminium panels in a diagonal grid structure. The southwestern façade was opened up towards the panoramic view of the city. The main façade towards the Fair’s campus combined printed glass with coloured triple glazing, internally lit.
